A Cast Alternative for Wrist Fractures — Washable, Breathable, and Moldable to Your Wrist
A traditional plaster cast protects a broken wrist. It also gets itchy, smells bad by week three, and means no showers. The Manumed RFX is medi's answer to that problem: a wrist fracture brace with extended aluminum stays on both the palm and back of the wrist that provide the same immobilization as a cast, in a brace you can take off to wash and dry your arm. The Airtex liner is machine washable, the numbered straps adjust as swelling goes up and down, and the wide opening makes getting it on and off — even over a dressing — something you can manage without a second person in the room.
Product Details
Support Level: Maximum (Fracture Immobilization)
Best For:
• Distal radius fractures — the most common wrist fracture, at the lower end of the forearm bone
• Stable wrist fractures managed without surgery
• Post-surgical wrist immobilization after fracture fixation
• Forearm fractures requiring wrist immobilization
• Anyone whose provider has recommended a cast alternative or functional fracture brace
Why the Manumed RFX Wrist Fracture Brace Works
Aluminum Stays That Immobilize Like a Cast — Without Being One
Extra-long aluminum stays run along both the palm side and the back of the wrist and forearm, pre-shaped to the typical wrist position and individually adjustable to match your specific anatomy. Together they create a rigid framework that holds the fracture site still during healing — the same immobilization goal as a plaster cast, but in a brace, you can open, adjust, and remove. Fingers stay mobile throughout.
Machine-Washable Airtex Liner — No More Six-Week Smell
The breathable Airtex liner removes from the brace frame completely and goes straight in the washing machine. That means you can keep the wrist area clean during healing — especially important if the fracture site is near a surgical wound or a dressing that needs regular changing. The open-sided construction also lets air reach the skin, which a solid cast simply cannot do.
Adjustable Numbered Straps That Accommodate Swelling
Wrist swelling fluctuates during fracture healing — worst in the first week, gradually improving over several weeks. The numbered Velcro straps are designed to be loosened and retightened as swelling changes, maintaining the right amount of immobilization throughout healing rather than requiring a new cast each time the fit shifts.
Wide Opening for Pain-Free Application
Getting a brace on and off over a recently fractured, swollen wrist without causing pain is a real design challenge. The Manumed RFX has an extra-wide opening specifically to make application and removal as smooth as possible — even if you need to slide it over a bandage or dressing. That ease-of-use matters during the days when even small movements are genuinely uncomfortable.
Built for Your Active Life
Ideal activities while wearing:
• Daily living activities during fracture recovery — getting dressed, light meal preparation, grooming
• Walking and low-impact movement as cleared by your provider
• Any activity permitted during your fracture recovery protocol
• Showering — the removable liner and water-resistant frame make hygiene management practical
The Manumed RFX is a cast alternative — not a soft support. Follow your doctor's instructions on wear time, when to start moving the fingers and wrist, and when to begin transitioning to lighter support. Do not self-discontinue use before your provider clears you.
Is the Manumed RFX Wrist Fracture Brace Right for You?
This might be the right brace for you if:
• You have a distal radius or wrist fracture, and your doctor has recommended a fracture brace or cast alternative
• You are in a cast and asking your provider about switching to a functional brace option
• You need to keep the fracture site clean and dry during healing and cannot do that in a solid cast
• You want the structure of a cast with the practicality of something you can remove for hygiene
